For those who have followed Silverbirch for more than a few years you may remember we have promised composite before........
So what went wrong? We announced our new product offerings after extensive trials of materials and laminates, we even took a pre-production prototype to the annual industry trade show in Germany and added it to our 2018 price list.
We were more than confident in the materials used, weight of the finished boat, and most crucially the Long-term durability of the laminate having spent more than a year trying to break the same prototype (and 'failing' dismally to do so)
The only issue was the cosmetic finish, which we fully expected to improve over future mouldings from our supplier.... It didn't, and rather than send Silverbirch boats out the door that we were not happy with we made the difficult decision to bench the project until such a time as we could set up our own internal composites facilities and make bespoke composite canoes in-house that the whole Silverbirch team could be truly proud of.
Indirectly this delay has created a fantastic opportunity for long-term testing of ideas and materials.
Indirectly this delay has ensured we approach our composite range in the same way as any other aspect of Silverbirch - with end to end development, manufacturing, and outfitting all under one roof (ours)
Did we mention we are excited?
